Who Actually Owns Americas $39 Trillion Debt? 🧾 [dlVVi6phfMl]

Everyone says China owns America's debt. China holds about 1.8% of it. Here's the real breakdown of the $39 TRILLION US national debt, to scale: • US private investors (pensions, mutual funds, banks, individuals) — $17.7T (45%) • US government trust funds (Social Security, military & civil service retirement, Medicare) — $7.6T (19%) • Federal Reserve — $4.4T (11%) • All foreign holders combined — $9.3T (24%) Which means about 76% of America's debt — $29.7T — is owned by Americans. The biggest foreign holders are Japan ($1.2T), the United Kingdom ($0.9T) and China ($0.7T), with roughly $6.5T spread across 90+ other nations. The Federal Reserve alone holds more than Japan, the UK and China combined. Two notes on the data: the Federal Reserve's holdings are part of debt held by the public, NOT intragovernmental holdings — several popular summaries get this wrong. And the UK figure is inflated by custodial holdings, since London-based custodians hold Treasuries on behalf of investors in other countries.
