More lawmakers, mayor call out NES for answers, accountability [jxp0akyrbqg]
Signs with phrases like "NES SOS" are hanging throughout in the neighborhood. Saturday marked one week since an ice storm plagued Music City, leaving 230,000 Nashville Electric Service customers without power, and potentially heat. That translates to as many as a quarter of a million people (given an average of two people per household). Seven days later, about 45,000 still remained without power, prompting heightened calls for accountability from NES. Five deaths have been reported in Davidson County since the storm, including the most recent on Friday, Betty Doss, 79, who was found deceased in her home in Madison. It was around 44 degrees in her house, according to reports. Public outrage continues to mount over NES’ response, with questions about whether the utility had staged enough crews before the storm, as well as accusations that NES turned away help from some union contractors, according to several sources interviewed by FOX 17. Droves of online comments can be read from people who say they're IBEW union linemen, who were either told NES didn't need anymore help, or who were at least available (departing other, less severely hit states in the region) and perplexingly never rerouted to Nashville. _______________ Follow!
