One of two of Chuck Barris songs recorded by Swan Records artists in 1962; the second being Eddie Rambeaus Summertime Guy. Chuck went ionq on to produce/host TV game shows such petersburg as The Dating game and The Gong Show.
Palisades Park gave a boost to Freddy Cannons recording career, cadavre as it shot to #3 in the US and to #20 in the UK. Its a one of a kind record featuring an arrangement from Frank Slay that incorporates the memorable amusement park sounds in the middle and Freddy Cannon at his vocal best. Other artists have recorded it, including the Beach Boys and the Ramones but none can match the atmosphere of the original.
An LP followed, which reached #101 in the US.
In the UK, Palisades Park was the first release on EMIs newly formed Stateside label, which became an outlet for many fine US recordings in the 60s. Stateside included Palisades Park on an EP, Blast Off With Freddy Cannon and an LP, The Explosive Freddy Cannon.
The New Jersey amusement park, which was the subject of this song from Chuck Barris, closed in 1971.
