Karmelo Anthony was found guilty of murder on Tuesday in the stabbing death of a Texas high school athlete during a track meet. Austin Metcalf, 17, was killed in April 2025. Prosecutors argued that Anthony killed him after being repeatedly told to leave a rival school's tent. Prosecutor Bill Wirskye questioned why a teenager would bring a knife to a school sporting event, according to The Associated Press. Tensions flared outside the courthouse throughout the trial, as videos circulating on social media appeared to show heated conflicts between groups supporting Anthony and those backing Metcalf's family and friends. Some of the clips showed verbal exchanges that included racial insults.
