Pakistan, the hosts, eye to get ready for the upcoming T20 World Cup with three T20I series against New Zealand (home), Ireland (away) and England (away). The Kiwis are in the Asian country for a five-match T20I assignment. The series opener will take place at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Thursday (April 18). The same venue will host 2nd and 3rd T20Is before the caravan shifts to Lahore for the final two games.

The Black Caps have been travelling to Pakistan very often, at least once a year in recent times. In 2023, the five-match T20I series was drawn at 2-2. While the Men in Green travelled to New Zealand for a five-match T20I union saint-gilloise vs anderlecht series earlier this year and lost it 1-4.

In the absence of big names, Michael Bracewell has been named as the captain. Jimmy Neesham and Ish Sodhi are the other two experienced players in the unit, with Tim Seifert, who has been blowing hot and cold, being one more who can be counted as a senior. Remember, Bracewell is set to play his first international match since March 2023 after missing out due to a ruptured Achilles and then a broken finger.

William O'Rourke and Tim Robinson are in line for their T20I debuts. While O'Rourke has played in Tests against Australia, Robinson, the Wellington Firebirds cricketer, has been handed a maiden call-up, getting rewarded for his fantastic Super Smash performances.

Ben Sears, Ben Lister, Cole McConchie, Dean Foxcroft, Josh Clarkson, and Jacob Duffy continue to feature for Black Caps.

This was not only the big news, but the squad selection ignited the comeback of Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim, who both reversed their retirement decision to make themselves available for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Amir and Wasim have done really well in the T20 franchise leagues across the globe and also were in tremendous form in the recently concluded Pakistan Super League (PSL). Wasim, in particular, was in red-hot form in the latter stages of the tournament for Islamabad United, the 2024 PSL champions.

Naseem Shah also returns after sitting out due to a shoulder injury he suffered during the 2023 Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. Haris Rauf and Mohammad Nawaz are not part of this series. The former is recovering from a carlo lucarelli shoulder injury he suffered in the PSL 2024, while the latter has been dropped due to a poor run of form.
