It was an odyssey, but was it THE Odyssey? | Spoiler Free Review [ldnqDc3rAMt]
#theodyssey #moviereview #moviereaction And who is this Homer, anyway?! Further reading: I listened to the audiobook of Emily Wilson’s translation of The Odyssey (performed by Claire Danes), but I recommend you pick up a copy of the book, too. It has a fantastic introduction, including Wilson’s discussion of the translation choices she made and where they differed from previous ones, and it’s easier to highlight/annotate as you read/listen :-) I got a lot out of Robert Garland’s TGC course “The Greek World: A Study of History and Culture”. It’s a decent introduction to the ancient and classical Greek world, and the course guidebook has an excellent bibliography. Better yet, it’s on Hoopla, so if you’ve got a library card, you can probably watch it for free like I did! I’m also getting a lot out of Robert Garland’s “Daily Life of the Ancient Greeks” and Adam Nicolson’s “Why Homer Matters” Rob on Threads - Rob on Instagram - Rob on Bluesky - Rob on Twitter - Jim on Threads - Jim on Instagram - Jim on Twitter - #jimandroboveranalyzemovies #filmstudies Chapters: 00:00 Intro 00:33 Rob’s logline 01:12 Jim and Rob’s spoiler free take 03:11 What about that cast, Jim? 05:04 Accuracy, fidelity, and historical materialism! 11:05 See It Or Skip It?
