Don Kirshner appears on Later With Bob Costas (1990). Kirshner was a music publisher, music consultant, rock music producer, talent manager, and songwriter. Time magazine dubbed him "the Man with the Golden Ear.” He was best known for managing songwriting talent as well as successful pop groups, such as the Monkees, Kansas, and the Archies. As a producer-promoter, Kirshner was instrumental in launching the careers of singers and songwriters, including Bobby Darin, Tony Orlando, Neil Diamond, Carole King, as well as discovering the rock group Kansas. In the 1970s Kirshner served as executive producer for the rock-concert TV program "In Concert" (1972-75) as well as the syndicated television show, "Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert"(1973-81). Kirshner passed away in 2011 at the age of 76.
